Working with and for street children towards a better present and brighter future in a more just, equitable and humane society is imprinted as the vision of Jan Vikas Society. The mission of the Society is stated as ‘rescue, redress, rehabilitation through empowerment and self reliance, generated by awareness and achievement, made possible by legal assistance and capacity building, in co-ordination with competent authorities and networking with specialized agencies’.

The Society aims not only at the welfare of the underprivileged children but also lays emphasis on identifying and developing the innate potential of each child and making them to stand on their own feet.

Future Plan

  • Jan Vikas Society wishes to raises a school of its own to facilitate the education of street and poor children who are otherwise scattered in different schools of Navi Mumbai
  • The Society also envisages opening a Social Welfare Centre, where Children can rectify themselves, de-learn the bad habits and re learn many good habits

Our Story

How We Got Started

Mermier Bal Ashram is the first rehabilitation centre for Street children of Jan Vikas Society established in 1996 at Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai. There are hundreds of children who have gone through this rehabilitation centre, since its inception.

With the object of ensuring a rightful place for these exploited children, Jan Vikas Society go all-out with its process of reaching out and providing for the fulfillment of basic needs of such children. The Society effectively manages three rehabilitation centers and six day care centers in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
